Take Action to Defeat AB1934's Open Carry Ban!

Unfortunately, Assemblywoman Lori Saldana's bill (AB 1934) to ban open carry in California has passed the Assembly by one vote and its fate is now in the hands of the California Senate.

But this means that the fate of open carry rights in California is up to YOUR state Senator because the vote is expected to be very close - probably by one vote as well!

Unless YOU act, AB 1934 will become law and ban open carry, the only practical right to carry for most Californians because Sheriffs have absolute discretion in issuing concealed handgun permits.

Action Item #1: Email your STATE Senator and urge him to vote against AB 1934
*****************************

Step 1: Identify your STATE Senator by clicking here and typing in your California zip code (if it shows 2 Senators, send message to both).

Step 2: Click on the Senator's name and go to his contact page - fill in the email web form COMPLETELY, including your complete address and phone number.

Step 3: Draft and send your message!

Suggested Message (feel free to modify but BE POLITE and business like):

SUBJECT: Please vote against AB 1934!

Dear Senator:

I am your constituent.

I was shocked to learn that the Assembly approved AB 1934 to ban open carry, the only way to bear arms for most Californians due to most Sheriffs' refusal to issue concealed handgun permits for self-defense purposes.

Now I expect YOU to stand tall and stop this bill cold in the Senate.

California is just like 42 other states which allow the open carry of properly holstered handguns, and in 5 of the 7 states banning open carry, these states liberally issue "shall issue" concealed handgun permits to citizens on demand. I know you love our constitution like I do - and that the US Supreme Court in DC v. Heller (2008) held that the constitutional right to "bear arms" means "the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation."

Lori Saldana is lying when she says her bill will not affect private property rights. If AB 1934 passes open carry will not just be banned in public places on public streets but almost **all privately owned land including business establishments** because the California courts have said that all private land is presumptively a "public place" for purposes of gun control laws unless the land is securely fenced or guarded. See People v. Strider (2009).

A vote for AB 1934 is a vote against private property rights.

This issue is so important to me that I want you to contact me as soon as you have made up your mind on AB 1934.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME

Action Item #2: Call your STATE Senator
*****************************

Wait 2 business days after sending the web form email message to your state senator and then call her and leave a voice message with her staff or voice mail that you want her to vote against AB 1934.

Step 1: Identify your STATE Senator by clicking here and typing in your California zip code (if it shows 2 Senators, call both).

Step 2: Call the Senator's Sacramento office. If you actually get connected to a staffer or the Senator, great, but the focus is to leave a clear simple but polite message.

Suggested Talking Points (feel free to modify but BE POLITE and business like):

Good morning/afternoon:

I am your constituent.

I am also very opposed to AB 1934 which would ban open carry in California.

AB 1934 is totally unacceptable to me and I expect you to vote against it.

California is just like 42 other states which allow the open carry of properly holstered handguns, and I want my Second amendment right to carry in public protected.

If AB 1934 passes open carry will even be banned on private property because the California courts have said that all private land is presumptively a "public place" for purposes of gun control laws.

This issue is very important to me.

Please let me know what you are going to do.

Sincerely,
